Nov 16, 2013 - The last stocking of Apple Creek for this year

The last stocking of Apple Creek for this year was today...and it was by far a great day not only for catching fish but also stocking the creek and doing a micro-vertabre study of the creek which indicates a very healthy population of Stone Flies, Caddis and Mayfly Larvae, red worms and other insects for the trout to eat over the winter....there will be plenty of fishing opportunities over the winter as there are plenty of trout in the creek..

Thanks once again to the Clear Fork River Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources for providing funds to keep Apple Creek a great fishery for trout anglers.

Oct 19th and 20th Fly Fishing clinics and stocking was a success

Apple Creek along with the ODNR got funds to stock the creek with rainbow, brown and golden trout along with the stocking on Saturday a fly fishing clinic was held for those interested in learning the skills and techniques of catching trout on a fly...These clinics were held on both Saturday and Sunday and were a success and many happy faces along with the usual fish stories were told....I had the pleasure of being one of 14 guides to help others learn the fly fishing skills and most of the others there also were given advise ranging from using the proper leader and tippet and what type fly's to use....everyone enjoyed themselves and were catching fish., although Saturday had a little rain very few complained...Sunday turned out to be the nicest day of the stockings although it was sunny out the trout were a little more picky on what they would hit...but I seen quite a few of the new anglers pulling out trout and releasing them back into the creek with the Catch and Release encouraged at Apple Creek....The creek was stocked with not only with Rainbow trout but also Brown and Golden Trout....It's a great feeling to know that when all the other main rivers are blown out Apple Creek is normally fishable the next day after a hard rain....Thanks to the Clear Fork Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Ohio Dept of Natural resources in providing funds for us fly fishermen who pursue trout on a regular basis...Apple Creek is still my favorite place to fish.

Trout Fishing makes a comeback

In my last post I spent some time writing about the devastation of the 10 and 11th July 2013 rainstorms that wrecked Apple Creek Trout fishing...it seems this was a mistake...the trout have mysteriously reappeared and are now located through-out the creek...my last 2 outings prior to the 11th of August I only seen one trout but today I seen 12 other trout from the park area all the way up to the Pittsburg Bridge...they looked healthy and I managed to catch 2 of them..

It appears that the trout fishing will go on and the trout have survived the floods....I am glad to see the trout swimming around giving me and others a great angling experience to catch and release them.....I guess time will only tell but I do know this some of the trees that are blocking the flow of the creek have to be dealt with in order to substain current flow and bring enough oxygen to the creek for the trout to survive...maybe in time with the next rain event those trees will be pushed out of the way....of course that event happened in 2008 and the creek was reconstructed by the raging water....only time will tell...but for now I will enjoy the Catch and Release Trout fishing at Apple Creek...

July 10th and 11th Devastates Apple Creek

July 10th and 11th of 2013 is a date most of us will remember...those dates massive amounts of rain flooded parts of Wooster and also Apple Creek....I paid a visit to the Creek on July the 12th and it was still about 1 1/2 foot above normal so I waited til that Sunday to go down and fish for trout....man was I surprised...the entire creek has been changed and has devastated the trout fishing....all the deep holes were now filled in and most of the trout are gone....only spotted 2 trout in the last 2 outings and I will not be going back any time soon....there are many large trees that are down across the creek blocking any fish progression up or down stream and the banks of one of the locations on the creek in the next rain event will give up 3 or 4 more huge trees to the creek....I have been fly fishing this creek quite often during the last year and I and alot of the other anglers are quite heartbroken to see the creek in such bad shape...I have no idea if anything can be done in the way of restoration work....but one thing is for certain...the way the creek is set up now....the trout fishing will be coming to an end shortly if the trees continue to block the progression of the fish up or down stream....Apple Creek was my favorite creek to fly fish...but for now I am going to have to find alternative spots due to the creeks condition....the July 10th and 11th rain storms did more than flood alot of peoples homes and businesses...it ruined the fishing on Apple Creek.....

The Clear Fork Chapter of TU stocks Apple Creek

Oct 13, 2012 is a day I will remember for a long time....that was the day the Clear Fork Chapter of Trout Unlimited along with the City of Wooster stocked Apple Creek with Rainbows....I caught and released 17 rainbow trout that day and there were many others also who were joining in on the action....there was a fly fishing clinic and some of the Senior Flyfishermen were instructing beginning fly fisherman about the art of fly casting as well as tackle and tips.....they held this event on the 13th and 14th of October...and from what I heard and read on the fishing reports....everyone had a great time learning how to fly fish.....

November 17th is also a day I will remember for a long time.....this was the last stocking of Rainbow Trout on Apple Creek for 2012......I caught and released 8 big bows that day and there were many others fly fishing that joined in on the fun....It's wonderful place to go to and clear your mind of the everyday work pressure environments - a great place to relax and catch some fish..

Apple Creek is easily assessable by going into Wooster and getting on Bowman St.....then making a turn on S. Beaver st....that will take you directly to Freelander Road......and when you get to Freelander road go all the way till the end of the Road and you will see a sign "GrosJean Park"

There are serval paths to take but they all lead to the river and you can go either upstream or downstream..
